Anya Humphrey (b. 2002) is a London-based artist from South Shields. Her practice draws on auto-ethnographic research, weaving together personal, familial, and digital archives to explore themes of nostalgia, identity, power, and class through lived experience, growing up in the North East of England.

While her practice spans media, painting remains her primary language: a way to capture moments in-between. The work becomes paradoxical, where such themes as warmth and tension overlap. Her compositions resist closure. instead, they linger, inviting viewers to sit with complexity, rather than reach for answers. Through this, Humphrey’s art becomes a mirror reflecting intimacy, resistance and memory.
